Should New Mexico Panic Over Omicron

-

The headlines from the New Mexico media outlets are not comforting, to say the least. Take this one from KOB.com, “New Mexico braces for surge of Omicron cases”.

Over at santafenewmexican.com, the headline is, “State reports another Santa Fe County COVID-19 fatality as cases continue to surge over New Year’s weekend”, there’s that word surge again.

The focus on schools leads abqjournal.com with, “School officials prepare for new wave of virus“.

The message from progressive media and the blue government is clear, Omicron is surging so keep wearing your mask, get vaccinated, and we may need to return to remote learning.

Yet, we have learned from Biden administration officials that cloth masks are insufficient against the smaller Omicron variant, vaccines are but a small part of the equation, and Education Secretary Miguel Cardona believes in-person learning should be “the default for students across the country”.

The facts regarding Omicron are showing that, yes, cases are on the rise. This new variant of COVID-19 is much more transmissible than its predecessors but far less deadly.

According to a Danish study, we will likely see a huge spike of cases in January, but we will be better off afterward.

Fear is common in the blue states like New Mexico has allowed itself to become. When people choose to depend on the government for their truth and hope, the government seeks to make that dependence stronger through fear.

See the cycle? So, let’s not panic over Omicron but overcome it through compassion, knowledge, and common sense.
